Sub District Convention
On February 23, 2021 4 members of the Clear Creek Amana FFA Chapter traveled to Iowa Valley High School to compete in the 2021 Northwest Sub-District Competition. Four FFA members represented Clear Creek Amana in competing in contests at Sub-Districts. Lillie Haman participated in Ag Sales and sold Muck Boots. Lillie received a gold and is the alternate for Districts. The Clear Creek Amana FFA had two greenhand members Kathe Nelson and Marinda Phan take an electronic version of the greenhand test. The test was all about FFA knowledge and advanced to the district level. Delaney Bulechek represented the Clear Creek Amana FFA as the Creed Speaker and she received a first place gold rating and will advance to Districts. In the area of Job Interview Katie Anderson received a bronze. FFA members that advanced to Districts will compete on March 6, 2021 in Mediapolis. Iowa FFA Degree
Three Clear Creek Amana FFA Members earn state honors. Members are Katie Anderson, Alex Cox and Lillian Haman. Congratulations to this group of Clear Creek Amana FFA members, they have been approved to receive their Iowa Degree this April at the Iowa FFA State Leadership Conference. These members have worked for this since their freshman year- keeping records on some pretty incredible Supervises Agricultural Experiences (SAE) projects, being involved in more than just local activities, giving back to their community and gaining valuable skills that they will have for a lifetime. Proud is an understatement. “The Iowa FFA Degree is the highest degree the state can bestow upon a member. FFA members who qualify have met minimum involvement requirements in all components of the three circle model; SAE, FFA and Classroom/Laboratory.” FFA Members Attend District Conference (Monday January 18, 2021)- Each year the Southeast district and Iowa FFA officers plan and facilitate Greenhand Fire Up Conferences for FFA members in the southeast district. Clear Creek Amana High School welcomed FFA chapters from all over the Southeast district on Monday January 18, 2021. While at Clear Creek Amana on Monday, district and state officers lead four interactive workshops for first year high school FFA members, also known as Greenhands, for the annual Greenhand Fire Up Conference. The workshops facilitated were leadership focused with an emphasis on the experiences that occur in the lives of beginning high school students. 35th Annual Legislative Symposium & FFA Day at the Capitol
DES MOINES, IOWA—FFA members from across Iowa converged on the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines to build character and promote citizenship, volunteerism, and patriotism. Approximately 300 high school students wearing blue corduroy from 51 schools flooded the Iowa State Capitol Building in Des Moines on January 28. The students visited with legislators, exhibited skills learned in the agriculture classroom and learned the importance of citizenship. This was all part of the 35th Annual Iowa FFA Legislative Symposium and FFA Day at the Capitol. During the morning, FFA members heard from Julie Kenney, Iowa Deputy Secretary of Agriculture about the importance of agriculture in Iowa and abroad. Kelsey Tyrrell of the World Food Prize addressed students about the future of Iowa agriculture and the importance of being involved with statewide issues. FFA members also heard remarks from Iowa Farm Bureau Federation President, Craig Hill, about the importance young agriculturalists can play in the agriculture industry. Lieutenant Governor Adam Gregg presented the FFA Week Proclamation, declaring February 22-29, the week of President George Washington's Birthday, FFA Week in Iowa.The Clear Creek Amana FFA members that attended where Ainsley Schrock, Kyle Pitlick and Delaney Wildman. While at the capital the students met with Senator Kevin Kinney and Representative Amy Nielsen. The Clear Creek Amana FFA Soils team of Alex Cox, Claire Beitz, Olivia Miller, Bryce Mougin and Tyler Steines were 10 points from qualifying for the State FFA Soils Contest that will be held in March. At FFA Soils Career Development Event FFA teams participated in the knowledge and skills in the area of Soils Evaluation. The Soils Evaluation Career Development Event included the evaluation of four soil pits, plus a written exam about soils in Iowa. The score card used to judge the soil pits is divided into five parts: Surface Features, Soil Features – The Profile, Land Capability Classification and Productivity Potential, Evaluation of Management Practices, and Sustainability of Soils for Non-Agricultural Uses. The Clear Creek Amana FFA Soils team has participated at the District Soils which is held in Muscatine and the NRCS soil scientist analyze the soils pits and communicate the officials to each team. The Clear Creek Amana FFA Soils team performed well on the written exam but the sandy soil of Muscatine tripped up the team this year. The Clear Creek Amana Team would like to thank local farmers for digging soils pits and providing soil samples so the team can practice on a variety of soil types. Six members of the Clear Creek Amana FFA Chapter attended the National FFA Convention, which was held in Indianapolis, IN. Attending were:Katie Anderson, Alex Cox,Jakub Chaira, Kayla Jiras and Delaney Wildman. The FFA Advisor Alyssa Amelon was also in attendance. The Clear Creek Amana FFA Chapter traveled to Indianapolis, IN on Tuesday Oct 29. On Tuesday the FFA members piled into the Clear Creek Amana school vehicle and headed towards Black Gold Ranch and Feedlot in Vermont IL. Upon arrival to the farm the students learned about the feeding operation, management of the cattle and the amount of time the cattle spend at the farm. This provided an interactive learning experience for the students. After the tour they continued to Indianapolis were they registered for convention and check into their hotel for the evening. At the first general session, members listened to the inspirational words of Bob Goff. He spoke about his journey of having big dreams and living a life full of commitment. They also listened to Dr. Steve Brown, the National FFA Advisor who expressed the importance of being motivated as an FFA member. A highlight of Wednesday was touring the Crazy Horse Hops Farm, the Convention Center and Expo. Each and every place the FFA Chapter toured they talked about the importance of agriculture and how their business is related to agriculture. |
State Convention 2019
91st Annual Iowa FFA Leadership Conference FFA members from across Iowa celebrated their success while gathering at the 91st Iowa FFA Leadership Conference on April 14-16 at Iowa State University’s Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa. The Iowa FFA State Leadership Conference is the 4th largest of its kind in the National FFA Organization. “Just One.” the theme for this year’s convention, implies FFA members can make their voice be heard in educating others on the importance of agriculture and growing resources in the food, fiber and natural resources industry as it impacts the quality of life. Together, the message becomes stronger.The annual conference will provide agricultural education students the opportunity to participate in Career Development Event competitions, be recognized for accomplishments in events during the past year, become inspired by motivational speakers, interact with college and business professionals, and develop leadership skills. Chapter delegates and Iowa FFA Officers will also conduct the annual business session to make decisions for the student-run Iowa FFA Association. Students will also be engaged in a service project with Food Bank of Iowa. Chapter Delegates The Clear Creek Amana FFA Chapter had two chapter delegates Katie Anderson and Kyle Pitlick that voted and also conduct the annual business session to make decisions for the student run Iowa FFA Association. Guest Presenters and Keynote: Several exciting guests will be present at the 2019 Iowa FFA Leadership Conference. Keynote Matt Stutzman, motivational speaker and National FFA President, Luke O’Leary will address the conference. State officers from six other states will also be in attendance presenting various workshops and interacting with FFA members from Iowa. Freshman Greenhand Test: Other Career Development Events that the Clear Creek Amana FFA Chapter participated in were the Chapter Greenhand Test. Alex Cox is a freshman at Clear Creek Amana High School and participated in the State Greenhand Test. This test asks students general and specific questions about the FFA and the History of the National FFA Association. Alex received at gold rating for the Greenhand Test. Team Ag Sales Career Development Event FFA teams from 58 chapters participated in this year's CDE designed to provide the student an opportunity to display their agricultural knowledge and skills in the area of Agriculture Sales. The 232 individuals who participated in the event each completed an objective test, made a sales presentation, and performed a customer relations practicum. All team members worked together to prepare a marketing plan and make an oral presentation of the plan to the judges. The Iowa FFA Ag Sales CDE was made possible with support from Nationwide through the Iowa FFA Foundation. A total of 30 area agriculture business and sales personnel from the surrounding area served as judges. The Clear Creek Amana FFA Chapter earned a bronze: members that participated on the Clear Creek Amana AG Sales Team were: Maddie Anderson, Alex Cox and Kyle Pitlick Poultry Judging Career Development Event: The FFA Poultry Evaluation Career Development Event provides an opportunity for FFA members to display their agricultural knowledge and skills in the area of Poultry Evaluation. Activities included: placing classes of live poultry; placing and grading classes of ready to cook poultry; grading classes of egg interiors and exteriors; identifying and grading further processed poultry products, and a poultry production examination. There were 271 members participating from 75 chapters. The Poultry Evaluation and Technology Career Development Event was coordinated and conducted by Cameron Hall and the Poultry Science Staff of the Animal Science Department at Iowa State University.
