Chapter Activities
Chapter Meetings
The Clear Creek Amana FFA Chapter has monthly meetings on the second Thursday of the month at 7:45 am in the high school agriculture classroom. On occasion the Chapter will decide to do an evening meeting so students can enjoy dinner or do a community service activity. At chapter meetings students discuss Old and New Business and communicate when committee meetings will occur. All Clear Creek Amana FFA members are required to attend three meetings annually in order to show livestock at the county and state fair. Ice Cream Social
On the second day of school each year the Clear Creek Amana FFA Chapter invited the student body and their parents to attend the FFA Ice Cream Social. At this Ice Cream Social FFA member, students and parents enjoy Ice Cream Sponsored by the Johnson County Dairy Association and they talk about FFA opportunities. The evening concludes with a short meeting about the summers accomplishments and items to look forward towards in the fall. Homecoming Parade
Clear Creek Amana Student Council has invited the Clear Creek Amana FFA to join the homecoming parade the last couple of years. The FFA Chapter forms a committee of students to work on the design and implementation of the float. Often times a parent of a CCA FFA member will drive the float through the parade. This helps promote the FFA Chapter and the National FFA Organization. Harvest Appreciation Bags
The Clear Creek Amana FFA made and distributed over 30 snacks bags for farmers in the area. Bryce Mougin FFA Chapter Secretary came up with the idea and encouraged his fellow members to participate in this community service activity. The FFA Chapter went to their local grocery store and spent $50.00 on snack food and drinks to put in the bags for area farmers. On Friday afternoon the students met in the Ag room to assemble the bags. In each bag the farmer received a drink, a bag of chips and other various snacks. FFA Chapter members each took bags to distribute that weekend. Mrs. Amelon Chapter Advisor took several bags to the area CO-OP’s for farmers to pick up after unloading their grain at the elevator. Next year Clear Creek Amana FFA hopes to grow this project and provide more to area farmers during the harvest season. Community Trunk or Treat
The Clear Creek Amana FFA chapter participated at the Oxford trunk or treat. The FFA Chapter was invited to attend this event by the Oxford Community. Three FFA members rose to the occasion and planned a basic trunk decoration that would be inviting to younger children but still in the Halloween theme. FFA members handed out candy at the event to those that stopped by. FFA members that participated were Lille Haman, Kayla Jiras and Katie Anderson! Annual Soup Supper
Each year the Clear Creek Amana FFA Chapter holds a soup supper in junction with a home boys basketball game. The FFA serves soup to all that would like for a minimal fee and attendees can watch the basketball game. This year wa a little different the FFA Chapter did a drive through soup supper and it was a great success, Next year the FFA Chapter is planning on doing the traditional soup supper but also offer the drive through option for those that don't want to sit in the high school cafeteria to enjoy their soups. Johnson County Fair
Several Clear Creek Amana FFA members participated in the Johnson County fair. Although the fair was canceled this year and closed to the public, Johnson County still provided an opportunity for 4-H and FFA members and their families to exhibit their projects. Kayla Jiras and Lillie Haman both participated in the photography division at the county fair. The students brought their photos in for judging on Monday July 20 and picked them up on Thursday July 23. Kayla and Lillie earned blue ribbons for each of their photography exhibits. The livestock species also had an opportunity to exhibit during the Johnson County Fair. Clear Creek Amana had students showing cattle, sheep, hogs and chickens. Wes Quilan and Lillie Haman both exhibited animals in the Advanced Feeder Pen. Youth will nominate/weigh 3 head at the January weigh-in. Market beef nominated for advanced feeder classes are fed by the exhibitor and the animals rate of gain and caracas confirmation is what the judge is looking at during the judging process. Lillie Haman had the Grand Champion Advanced Feeder Pen and Wes Quinlan received a purple. Grant Haman showed his registered breeding heifer in the Angus division. He earned a blue ribbon and will be exhibiting her at the Iowa State Fair in the FFA Breeding Beef division. Katie Anderson showed both sheep and swine at the Johnson County Fair.
